Ultrahuman, a health technology company known for its wearable devices, has expanded its offerings by introducing on-demand heart rhythm scans. This new feature enables users to perform real-time checks for atrial fibrillation (AFib), a common heart rhythm disorder, directly through their Ultrahuman Ring Air and Ring Pro devices. The scans are facilitated via the Ultrahuman app, utilizing FibriCheck’s technology to analyze heart rhythms.

Real-Time AFib Detection

The on-demand heart rhythm scan allows users to initiate a 60-second test at any time, providing immediate insights into their heart’s rhythm. This feature complements Ultrahuman’s existing AFib detection, which monitors heart rhythms during sleep. By offering real-time assessments, Ultrahuman aims to empower users to proactively monitor their heart health throughout the day.

Integration with FibriCheck

The heart rhythm scan is powered by FibriCheck, an FDA-cleared and CE-marked medical device for atrial fibrillation detection. FibriCheck’s algorithm has demonstrated high accuracy in detecting AFib, with a 98.8% overall accuracy rate when compared to a 12-lead ECG. This integration ensures that Ultrahuman users have access to reliable and clinically validated heart rhythm monitoring.

Accessibility and Availability

Currently, the on-demand heart rhythm scan feature is available in select markets, including the UK, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia-Pacific regions. However, it is not yet accessible in the United States. Ultrahuman has not specified when or if the feature will be expanded to additional regions.

Subscription Model

The heart rhythm scan is part of Ultrahuman’s PowerPlugs, a suite of optional add-ons that enhance the functionality of their wearable devices. While core tracking features remain free, the AFib detection PowerPlug is available for a monthly fee of ÂŁ4.90 or an annual fee of ÂŁ49. This subscription model allows users to access advanced health monitoring features without a mandatory ongoing cost for basic functionalities.

Implications for Wearable Health Technology

Ultrahuman’s introduction of on-demand heart rhythm scans reflects a growing trend in wearable health technology toward providing users with immediate, actionable health insights. By enabling real-time monitoring of heart rhythms, Ultrahuman empowers individuals to take proactive steps in managing their cardiovascular health. This development also highlights the potential for wearables to integrate with medical-grade technologies, offering users a seamless experience that combines convenience with clinical accuracy.

Looking Ahead

As Ultrahuman continues to innovate in the wearable health tech space, users can anticipate further enhancements to their devices and services. The company has previously collaborated with Les Mills to integrate studio-quality workouts into their app, demonstrating a commitment to expanding the utility of their wearable devices beyond health monitoring. Additionally, Ultrahuman’s partnership with Qualcomm Ventures in a recent funding round indicates a focus on advancing the computational capabilities of their devices, potentially leading to more sophisticated health monitoring features in the future.

For users in regions where the on-demand heart rhythm scan is not yet available, staying informed about Ultrahuman’s product updates and regional expansions will be essential to access these advanced health monitoring capabilities.
